Have you ever met someone who changes your entire perspective on life?
I'd like to introduce you to my buddy Cade Kuehl. I met Cade during my last semester at the University of Winnipeg. Cade came up to me after our lecture and asked if I would be interested in going to the gym together some time. I didn't really know much about him, besides the fact that he was incredibly intelligent, but, I said lets do it.
Since then Cade and I have become close friends - working on homework and going to the gym together a couple times a week. During one of our gym sessions Cade mentioned to me that he has always had the ambition to have a fitness related photoshoot, with the hopes of possibly building a modelling portfolio. Seeing that I am a photographer, I thought that this would be an awesome way to collaborate!
Cade was born with Cerebral Palsy.
Although he sometimes struggles to speak, move, swallow, or even sleep - Cade still manages to inspire everyone around him (including myself) with his infectious positive personality and his admirable ability to persevere. Despite being medically "disabled," Cade currently holds an impressive 4.0 GPA in university and he is an incredible public speaker.
Meeting Cade has made me realize how many of us take our life for granted. Often times we do not pursue a dream or ambition because we think that it is "stupid" or we worry about what other people may think. Because of this we create excuses in attempt to justify reasons why we shouldn't pursue a dream, or try something new. Meanwhile, despite his disability, Cade manages to meet and exceed his goals. This makes me question....What's your excuse?
I hope that these portraits portray my admiration for Cade. I hope that they inspire others to pursue their ambitions, despite the obstacles that they face.
Cade, I hope that these portraits make you feel empowered. I am very grateful to have been involved in this project and to have you as a friend. Thank you.
